Cancelled: a new modern metalband from the Netherlands. Modern Metal? I’ve heard all those crappy nu metal bands; a friend of mine told me when I introduced Cancelled to him. And he’s not the only one who thinks that way. Being labelled as nu metal is turning into an insult for bands. It’s a reason not to listen to them. Well… fuck that.

Cancelled is one of those bands that know how to play. That know how you put influences from such great bands as Tool, System of a Down and Deftones, into their sound. And they also add some own identity to it. Great.

3 songs on this EP (called "Abstained"). One of them ("S.O.S.") was on the demo they released in 2001.

The other two songs are new, and I have to say, they are better than "S.O.S.". "Abstained" is a great song to listen to. It has slow and fast parts, but it also has its catchy moments. You can here Tool and Dry Kill Logic influences at times, but that’s not a bad thing. "Below" is just perfect. I’ve heard this song about 20 times now. It has that same dragging feeling Tool sometimes has, and it also reminds me a bit of Number One Son and Downer (for those who even know these bands). Great song.

So, will Cancelled be the next Dutch nu metal sensation? I don’t know, but they are far ahead of other bands that still play Deftones and Korn type songs.
